A very simple example would be deleting a file from the recycling bin. It only deletes the entry index of the file. Running data recovery software would enable someone to recover the file if certain conditions are not met. Needless to say if data falls into the hands of someone with malicious intent, the consequences could be dire and the resources spent trying to rectify the mistake will definitely not be worth it.
Therefore to prevent that from ever happening, we provide 3 different types of sanitisation solutions to ensure that all data is destroyed before the devices are authorised to progress on to the next stage of their life cycle.

1. Enterprise Grade Data Wiping. Our data wiping solution complies with the National Institute of Standards and Technology SP 800-88(NIST SP 800-88). The NIST SP 800-88 is a guideline for media sanitisation used by the US government that provides methodical guidance when it comes to erasing data from electronic storage media. Using this method removes all data on the memory storage device without physically destroying the device. This allows us to reuse the storage device thus saving precious metals and resources.

2. Physical Destruction As the name suggests, this involves the physical destruction of the memory storage device. The process involves shredding the device into small pieces -think paper shredder- and/or crushing it by applying a large force. The materials will then be passed on our downstream recyclers.

3. Data Degauss(Hard Disks only) A data degausser erases data from hard disk drives by generating a powerful magnetic field that removes the magnetic properties from the magnetic surface of the platter in the hard drive causing the data to be randomised or erased.
